powerPerfector in the Financial Times

Financial Times 2

In November 2009 we were very proud to be the focus of a Financial Times review of Voltage Power Optimisation that generously referred to us as the ‘Green Holy Grail’. That FT.com elevated us to this position is not just a huge compliment but a validation of our technology’s sound economic value as an investment to reduce electricity cost, future price volatility exposure and carbon dioxide in order that companies can meet their Carbon Reduction Commitment. We have included a short extract from the article below. Should you wish to read more please click the link here for access on the FT’s website.

Voltage Power Optimisation with powerPerfector
It’s the green holy grail – to save the planet and save money at the same time. Like most grails, it is elusive. But some companies and public bodies think they may have found it. That is where voltage power optimisation comes in – a technology that one company, powerPerfector, has a licence to sell in the UK.

All electrical equipment in Europe is designed to run on 220V, yet the average voltage supplied in the UK 242V.

The VPO unit not only brings the voltage down to the correct level, but also improves the quality of the power supply so that electrical equipment can run more efficiently. “If you go into a Tesco with one of our VPO units, the compressors for the refrigerators are not running so hot, so the air conditioning doesn’t have to work so hard – so there’s a compounding of benefits. It also protects against spikes of up to 25,000V.” [Angus] Robertson (CEO) cites a voltage spike at a Tesco store, before one of his units was fitted, that rendered all the tills scrap – at a cost of £0.5m.

The maintenance-free unit, which is fitted at the point where [the] power supply enters the building, can save up to 20 per cent in energy costs. Nationwide, the company says it can provide an average 13 per cent kWh reduction. Which, it says, means the approximate payback period for a supermarket is 18 months, an office two years, and a school three years.
