powerPerfector delivering results for Ofgem

Ofgem Offices

On the 28 November 2008 powerPerfector's approved contractors installed two 1,250kVA units at Ofgem's Millbank headquarters. Since then Voltage Power Optimisation (VPO)® technology has been saving them approximately 9.1% of their electricity consumption, equivalent to 165,700kg of CO2 or £27,800 every year. However, as Kim Pivett - Head of Building Services at Ofgem, can prove; there's plenty more to VPO than just reducing energy consumption:

"The ability of powerPerfector technology to reduce energy (kWh) consumption at Millbank has been proven, but the technology has also provided Ofgem a range of other benefits. These all contribute to creating a more efficient, robust and reliable electrical supply for the site, and provide further financial benefits on top of the reduced energy costs.

We were suffering from voltage spikes (transients) which on numerous occasions damaged the lift controls causing them to stop operating. The cost each time to repair the damage was substantial at £800, however in the 1.5 years following the powerPerfector installation there has been no repeat of the issue. We are told that spikes are on the increase due to more switching on the grid so this level of protection is extremely valuable."

Where supply quality is critical, the inherent benefits of a VPO unit really come into play. As supply becomes increasingly susceptible to transients, the powerPerfector technology will protect a site from voltage spikes up to 25kV which can have devastating effects on sensitive electronic equipment. Harmonic filtration is also intrinsic to the design of a powerPerfector unit, and a typical pP installation will bring the Power Factor of a site up by 4% to 10%.
