powerPerfector uses brains over brine

When our engineering team were asked to manage the installation of a unit in the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy they were faced with a new challenge. 

Most powerPerfectors are installed in urban areas so the location of the site, on the Portland peninsula in Dorset surrounded by the salty air of the English Channel, meant a potentially corrosive environment. 

The copper sheets and unique core of each powerPerfector unit are hand-made using the purest materials to create each element. This purity and the efficient design are essential for the outstanding energy saving performance of the powerPerfector - so preserving this purity is vital. 

Michael Robertson-Lambert, Head of Engineering at powerPerfector said: “We had a bespoke enclosure made by KDS systems. The modular CUBIC system has an iron phosphate coating giving it excellent salt corrosion resistance. 

“We went a step further though and had the enclosure powder coated in our trademark green. The resultant enclosure should be good for at least the next 15 years, without rusting or showing signs of degradation.”

WPNSA is the venue for the 2012 Olympic Sailing Regatta. The VPO unit will assist in reducing overall electricity usage and enhance further the contribution made by solar power devices already installed on the site.

The Academy is now aiming to be the first 2012 venue to secure accreditation under B8901:2009 for sustainable events. With the new powerPerfector, the Academy is one step closer to achieving this goal.
