Jane Davidson, Welsh Assembly Government Minister for Environment, Sustainability and Housing, announced on 19 February 2010 that an extra £1 million is to be made available to Welsh organisations for sustainable energy projects. The extra funding is one of the many measures the Welsh Assembly Government has introduced to help all sectors in Wales combat climate change; and follows the incredible success of the Wales SALIX £4 million of interest-free loans being allocated three months after it opened in October 2009.
powerPerfector, who organised the event, were also privileged to have the Head of the British Wind Energy Association in Wales (now Renewable UK), Llywelyn Rhys, detail the impressive progress that had been made regarding wind farms in Wales; and the aim to make Wales 'self-sufficient' in terms of its electricity supply by generating >33 TWhrs by 2025 - 30 from renewable sources.
Among those attending the event were representatives from Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council, which will have the largest installation programme of powerPerfector units in Wales (following an initial installation of 4 units). 14 units are due to be installed over the coming months. This is estimated to reduce the Council's electricity consumption by 750,000 kWhs per year. powerPerfector units are due to be installed at a Welsh Assembly Government site shortly the units will reduce their carbon footprint by 145 tonnes.
Our thanks to all the excellent speakers who outlined what can, and is being achieved in energy efficiency, and renewable in Wales.
