Martin Mizen, Estates Manager, explained at The Carbon Cure event on the 8 April 2010 (at the Royal College of Physicians) that the installation of Voltage Power Optimisation technology is currently saving Princess Alexandra Hospital £54,000 per annum. A powerPerfector unit’s effectiveness and compatibility with onsite equipment has also been endorsed by Barts and the London NHS Trust, where 6 units are sited at the Royal London Hospital.
Alexander Beckett, who manages powerPerfector's Public Healthcare Strategy, said: 'In addition to savings being achieved on their electricity bill, Trusts are benefiting from a reduction in their liability under the Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme. Maintenance burdens are also alleviated as sensitive electrical and electronic equipment, such as MRI and CT scanners, are protected from transients and reduced harmonic levels.
From our analysis of Trust data, we estimate that over 1,000 sites would save approximately 25 million per year on their electricity bills. Our maintenance-free technology has been proven to reduce demand at sites, which provides significant additional ‘knock-on’ opportunities. For instance, lower capacity micro-generation technologies can be specified (CHP, solar photovoltaic panels etc.) or the excess electricity generated onsite can be sold back to suppliers.
We have indicative figures for powerPerfector projects for hospitals in England and Wales which we would be happy to provide to any Trust who is interested in engaging in our free evaluation process. We currently have 40 powerPerfector units installed at public healthcare sites, numerous case studies, a list of NHS references, funding options and regular unit viewings - our next one is on 1 April at Cirencester Hospital. Please do get in touch if you’d like to find out more.’
All saving's verification is calculated using the International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol, which means that organisations can be assured of valid and auditable savings levels post-installation of Voltage Power Optimisation technology.

“powerPerfector has installed at other acute hospital sites but we were the first major Acute site to install their equipment. Because not one of their units has ever failed and because they demonstrated excellent project management skills, the Trust was confident about moving ahead with the installation of six units at the Royal London Hospital. We have been so impressed with the equipment and the savings we have achieved that the Trust is now evaluating the potential to roll out further units across our estate.”
