The 2012 entries were judged with particular weighting on innovation, replicability and effectiveness. Through highlighting projects that demonstrate best practice in energy use the award aims to spread awareness of new technologies, innovations and information to a wider audience as well as celebrate the success that the award winners have had.
The 2012 winners are the Energy Agency (link), working with South Ayreshire Council, they started the Universal Home Insulation Scheme in October 2010. Over its lifetime (40 years) the project will save households in the South Ayrshire region £3.6m in heating bills and reduce carbon emissions by 18,500 tonnes.
The project entailed assessing 4,963 households for free cavity wall insulation, loft and top-up loft insulation and energy advice. By specifically targeting households at risk from ‘fuel poverty’ the Energy Agency was able to improve the project’s impact.
Liz Marquis, Director of the Energy Agency, said: "It is wonderful that the Energy Agency team has been recognised by the powerPerfector Award. I hope that many more households will benefit from free insulation by contacting the Energy Agency”.
Angus Robertson, CEO of powerPerfector, said: “Although insulation isn’t a topic that normally grabs the headlines, this project’s results will undoubtedly make a large difference to its participants. We are proud to be able to highlight great projects like this”.
