DEFRA

The Government has committed to a 60% reduction in Carbon Emissions by 2050 and is adding powerPerfector to the arsenal of proven technology which will help achieve this goal.
This weekend saw the installation of the first two units for Defra, more will follow shortly.
Mark Hoult, Carbon Programme & Energy Efficiency Manager has spearheaded the initiative to powerPerfect nine supplies including the Central Science Laboratory in York and several other sensitive sites.

More and more government offices are proving it's not all rhetoric and are leading the way in Carbon Emissions reduction. New powerPerfected Local Authority sites will include, Ryedale D.C., Weymouth and Portland Bill B.C. Sheffield City Council, Derby City Council, Milton Keynes Council, Rugby B.C. Brighton & Hove C.C. Swansea Institute of Higher Education and Maidstone Borough Council.

powerPerfecting the Private Sector continues at a steady pace with imminent or new installations at Regent Inns Plc. SAL Commercials Ltd., Hertsmere Leisure, Winterthur Financial Services Ltd. Road Chef and Roko Premier Health Clubs.

Staggering savings at a major Hotel took even the pP team by surprise, the combination of voltage optimisation and power quality improvements after a pP740kVa was installed at the Dartford Bridge Hilton site created improvements throughout the electrical supply, resulting in a kWh reduction of 13.2%, improved power factor by 7.3% to 0.90, a 28.1% reduction in mean reactive power and a 21.6% improvement in phase voltage balance.

R. Cohen & Assoc. Consulting Eng.Ltd., who has initiated the powerPerfecting of this and four other hotel sites, is, not surprisingly, delighted with the results.

Tanya and Steve
Sponsored by powerPerfector and Hosted by Wigan Council the half-day event promoted ‘Best Practice’ in energy and carbon management.
Speakers included representatives from Defra, ESTA, Salix and the Carbon Trust, with Kim Williams from North Yorkshire County Council – Local Government’s first Carbon Reduction Manager as guest speaker.

Wigan Council recently announced a five year carbon management plan which could save up to £10million and halve the projected CO2 emissions by 2011, Voltage Optimisation is a large part of the initiative.
Cllr David Molyneux, Wigan Council’s Cabinet Member for the Environment says: “The irony of an event like this taking place in the North-west of England – the cradle of the Industrial Revolution – isn’t lost on us, but councils are now at the forefront of the fight against climate change and we have a duty to act. “We don’t make any claims at Wigan to be ahead of the field, but if this event spreads the word and inspires others to act then it will be judged a success. Everybody in local government knows that we are faced with escalating energy prices and fuel bills we simply cannot afford.”

TESCO IRELAND
A powerPerfector unit was installed at Tesco Tralee Manor on 6th November 2006. The results clearly indicate the reduction in kWh consumption and improvement in power quality following the powerPerfector installation.
Comparing the entire period since installation (that is, 6th November 2006 – 31st January 2007) to the same period the previous year shows a reduction in kWh consumption of 11.7%. This figure would be considerably higher, but consumption over the winter (November – December) period in 2005 was very low, perhaps due to an extended shutdown period.
The reduction in maximum demand between these two time periods is 7.9%.
Energy Manager, Michael McNerney initiated the powerperfecting of our first Irish supermarket and is so delighted with the results that the decision has been made to roll out the technology, the first phase of 10/12 units will commence shortly.
Proving, every little powerPerfector helps.

Martin Illingworth, Land Registry's Environment Manager challenged all Land Registry's 23 sites that have powerPerfector's installed, to an energy efficiency competition over the 10 days between Christmas and the New Year, to see who could reduce their electricity the most, compared to a similar 10 day period in August. The totally switched on staff, switched off, turned down and wrapped up their buildings to see what could be achieved.
Swansea's Land Registry Office's extremely motivated CEPs (carbon efficient persons) were the clear winners of the powerPerfector Energy Efficiency Award with savings of 27.6%.
Eight other offices turned in impressive savings of over 20% confirming that competition within the powerPerfected sites was fierce.
On Friday 9th March in bright sunshine, representatives of the Environment Committee in the company of Martin Illingworth were presented with 10 trees and the pP Energy Efficiency Award by powerPerfector's CEO Angus Robertson.

We will be issuing details of this years competition for the pP Energy Efficiency Award later in the year.

BEA photo
A big thank you to Bill Doodson of Frederic Robinson's Brewery who invited Angus Robertson to present Voltage Optimisation to the Brewing Engineers at the BEA Conference, the invite follow's Bill's commitment to the technology and his decision to install a second unit at the Brewery.

An extremely warm welcome was extended at the social gathering the evening before with excellent food and good company.
Entertainment was provided by team participation in traditional pub games culminating in Martin Northover and John Baker of Carlsberg provided a nail biting finish with a Giant Jenga play-off to become this year's winners of the RGB Trophy. The evening was a pleasant prelude to the more serious topics of Monitoring, Analysis and Optimisation of all energy use covered at the Conference
.
We look forward to working more closely with this industry in the future.

baby bear

At Berlin Zoo, a small bear finds himself the subject of heated debate over his right to survive as a hand reared dependent after rejection by his mother.
Animal rights campaigners are calling for the baby poplar bear to be put down, one has to ask, have activist's become fundamentalist’s and lost their humanity?.
(aren't we suppose to be saving these animals)
