We would like to take this opportunity to thank North Yorkshire County Council for hosting a day of knowledge sharing and best practice in energy efficiency on June 28th.
It was a pleasure to see such enthusiasm and pro-activeness from delegates of local authorities across England's largest county.

Lively presentations were given by Kim Williams, Carbon Reduction Manager of NYCC, our CEO Angus Robertson, and special guest Anne McMaster, Head of Energy of the Office of Government Commerce.

In a useful Q and A session, technical questions were raised and answered to everyone's satisfaction.
Attendees were given a private viewing of the 560kVa powerPerfector installed at the County Hall, and invited to put their hands on the unit which, to the surprise of many, was barely warm.

Kim Williams, Carbon Reduction Manager North Yorkshire County Council
"It was good to see the commitment to reducing energy use in other local authorities. A key part of North Yorkshire County Council's sustainable development policy is to "Seek out good practice in other organisations, publicise and share our successes and good sustainable practice, and provide a positive role model for others". This event gave us the opportunity to share our experience of the powerPerfector device with our L.A. partners in North Yorkshire and beyond, and to demonstrate how straight-forward it can be to achieve significant carbon savings."
The pP560kVa unit is saving between 10.5% and 14.5% in costs and emissions per annum.

The heat is on, and as the temperature and humidity rises the cool depths of our public swimming pools beckon. While some local authorities have been threatened with pool closures due to unsustainable energy costs, Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council made the decision to tackle their rising costs by installing powerPerfector's V.P.O. technology.

It all adds up to savings of more than £6,300 on power bills and carbon savings of 45,000 kg per year. The technology will pay for itself within 18 months.

Steve Walmsley, Council Sustainability Officer, said:
"These figures are good news, and have exceeded the original prediction of 14% savings. I feel sure that other units will be fitted when the results are publicised within the Council.”

Time to take the plunge!

With results like these Wycombe's energy team deserve to be celebrating. The decision to install our V.P.O. technology surpassed the predicted savings, then, just kept getting better.
The installation of the 560kVA powerPerfector unit at the Wycombe District Council Municipal Offices has reduced electricity consumption by an amazing 20.2%.
Over the course of a year, this equates to a reduction of 318,941 kWh, financial savings of £24,144 and 137,145 kg of carbon savings.

Graham Weston, the Energy Manager, says:
"We are delighted with the results of our powerPerfector installation as it shows a higher than expected 20% reduction in energy use and costs, ensuring that the investment in this technology will pay for itself in a shorter than estimated period of 16 months.
This reduction will mean that our Council's environmental policy targets for reducing energy over the next 5 years have already been achieved, enabling us to set even more challenging targets.

Flush with the phenomenal results at their council offices, Wycombe D.C. have installed a powerPerfector unit in Swan Car Park where due to health and safety regulations, lighting the site is a 24 hour commitment resulting in high energy costs.

A reduction of 16.3% in electricity consumption costs have been confirmed along with a 16.3% reduction in CO2 emissions, lessening the environmental impact of the District Council’s operations. In addition a 14.6% reduction in the average HH maximum demand will allow the District Council to reduce their declared supply capacity or install extra load.

Do we adapt or prevent? In the Kalahari the desert is expanding while here at home coast lines are eroding. Michael Meacher M.P. has promised to increase the budget to tackle climate change but failed to state who will be bearing the costs or the measures that will be employed.
While we remain so complacent and unaware of the effects of totally avoidable waste, the government may well feel justified in penalising domestic users. We are still wasting enough energy each year to power 66,000 homes for a year, simply by leaving our phone chargers plugged in!
